Antonides, listed in the CMU football guide as an offensive lineman, competed in four games for the Chippewas during the 2007 season. The 6-3, 290-pound junior played the entire second half at center during the Chippewas' 51-48 loss to Purdue in the Motor City Bowl, back on December 26, 2007, at Ford Field in Detroit. Antonides missed the entire 2006 season at CMU due to an injury. While at Lapeer West, Antonides was a four-year letterwinner as an offensive lineman for Panthers' coach Mike Smith. Antonides also played defense at West, where as a senior in 2004 he had 61 tackles, including eight for a loss. Antonides was voted First-Team All Conference in the Flint Metro League after his senior season on both offense and defense and was an easy choice for First-Team All-State. At the time, Antonides was ranked No. 29 on the Detroit News Blue Chip list of the states top players and No. 32 in the Detroit Free Press Fab 50. Antonides is the son of Michael and Nancy Antonides of Lapeer and is currently studying industrial technology management at CMU. Friske, who was redshirted for his freshman season in 2006, is currently listed as the team's second string tight end. The 6-4 freshman from North Branch has bulked up to 232 pounds in order to play the tight end position for the Chippewas. During his playing days at North Branch, Friske helped the Broncos win the school's first-ever Tri-Valley East championship during the 2006 season. That year, North Branch compiled an 8-1 regular season record and qualified for the state playoffs for the first time in school history. Friske was a three-year starter at wide receiver for former North Branch coach Eric Hyde. In 2006, Friske caught a school-record 33 passes for 520 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also rushing the ball 60 times for 531 yards and 10 more touchdowns. Friske graduated as the school's single-season leader in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown receptions and set career marks at North Branch for receiving yards and touchdowns. He was a three-time all-conference selection and was named to the Associated Press Class B All-State First Team in 2006. Friske is the son of Allen and Darci Friske of Columbiaville. Davison's Wilson is also coming off a season in which he was redshirted at CMU. The 6-3 wide receiver is expected to provide some much-needed depth at WR for coach Butch Jones, and hopefully give All-Conference quarterback Dan LeFevour another big target to throw to in the Chips' high-octane, spread offense. Wilson was a three-year starter for coach Jeff Putnam while at Davison. During his senior season in 2006, Wilson accounted for more than 800 receiving yards while catching nine touchdowns. Wilson also returned two punts and two interceptions for scores during his senior season in Davison. Wilson was a two-time all-conference selection as both a wide receiver and a cornerback, and was named First Team All-State as a WR after his senior season. Wilson helped lead the Cardinals to a 12-1 record in 2006, along with a trip to the state semifinals. Wilson is the son of Melvin and Carol Wilson of Davison Goodrich native Kirk Elsworth is getting ready to begin his senior season at Western Michigan University. The 6-0, 225-pound running back appeared in six games last season for the Broncos. Elsworth only had one carry on the year, which was good for 19 yards. He was involved in 76 snaps for the Broncos, the majority of which came on special teams. During his high school playing days, Elsworth finished with the second-highest single-season rushing total in MHSAA history when he ran for 2,867 yards in 2004. Elsworth established a new MHSAA season record for scoring (379 points) and touchdowns (52). He set a Goodrich school record by rushing for 313 yards in a single game and was named to the Associated Press Class B All-State team. Kirk is the son of Ric and Rebecca Elsworth of Goodrich. Brandon High School graduate Josh Williams is competing for playing time this fall as a true freshman at Eastern Michigan University. The 6-1, 210-pound linebacker was an offensive star for the Blackhawks in 2007. Williams rushed for more than 800 yards and scored 10 touchdowns while also recording over 300 yards receiving. On defense, Williams had 77 tackles to lead Brandon and was selected as his team's most valuable player. Andrew Selich is Sports Editor at The County Press.
