GOODRICH -- A Goodrich High School parent spoke to the school board about her Goodrich High School student coming home from the Goodrich Football Camp with his head shaved.

The parent questioned the level of supervision and the culture that fostered this activity, which she termed as 'hazing.'

Secretary James Bertrand noted that the challenge now may be handling the repercussions that could result from the parent coming forward with her concerns.

When contacted, Athletic Director Al Martus said that he is still investigating the incident and was not yet able to comment.

In other news, after serving 12 years on the Goodrich Board of Education, Gary Foltz cast his last 'aye' vote on Monday evening. Doug Tetmeyer, who was elected in May to replace Foltz, begins his term July 21.

Foltz said he "wanted to thank the board and the community for a memorable 12 years."

Oaktree Elementary Principal Elizabeth Wallberg showed the board and the audience a video made about the school and the district for prospective students, such as those in the area who are currently home-schooled, and potential employees. The school includes such technology and education concepts as smart boards, team teaching in the fourth grade, and in-school community education programs.

On the business end of district operations, the Goodrich Area Schools are entering into a shared service agreement with the Genesee Intermediate School District for business services and its Special Education Director in the 2008-09 school year, for an estimated savings of $28,000.

Acting Superintendent Larry Allen said that it is a "shared service program on a voluntary basis for economic reasons."

The next Goodrich Board of Education meeting will be at 6 p.m. July 21 in the community room at the high school.
