Parades, fireworks planned



LAPEER COUNTY -- As Lapeer County residents celebrate the Fourth of July today, there's no shortage of communities that will host fireworks displays as well as a few parades.

The following events and fireworks are on tap today:

  • Hadley -- A kid's parade will start at 10 a.m. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. The main parade starts at noon and participants are asked to show up by 11:30 a.m.

  • Lapeer -- Fireworks will be held at dusk and will be launched from the field at Lapeer West High School. Schickler Elementary and Zemmer Junior High School parking lots and the Oakdale property off of Genesee Street will also be open for parking along with other locations around the area.

  • North Branch -- A parade will roll down Huron Street starting at 11 a.m. as part of North Branch Days. Fireworks will put on a show at dusk at North Branch High School.

  • Otter Lake -- Otter Lake Days includes a parade at 3 p.m. on Eleventh Street. Fireworks will fly at dusk over the lake.

    In 1941, July 4 was declared a federal holiday.
